I’m Kathleen. I write, mostly fantasy, but my first love will always be Romance.
I began sneak reading my mother’s copies of romance novels in the late 70’s and was automatically hooked. This of course lead to a heavy addiction to the genre, which naturally was a gateway to harder literary cravings. Austen, Bronte, Shelly (both Mary and Percy), and Pushkin (Eugene Onegin was my flavor of choice).
Angela Carter, Joan D. Vinge and Stephen King, not to mention a new and exciting crop of crossover Romance/Sci-fi/Fantasy authors consumed my teen years.
Then the YA craze hit and I was, like most adult readers of the genre, swept away by it. “This is the kind of story I wanted when I was 14!”
Lately I’ve been happily bouncing from Fantasy (Neil Gaiman), to Sci-fi (Andy Wier), from YA (Maureen Johnson & Ellie Marney), to Spy/Action Thrillers (Lee Child & Daniel Silva), re-tellings of old Folk Tales (Naomi Novick and Katherine Arden), and of course Romance (Jill Shalvis & J.R. Ward)!
All of this reading in my formative years made me want to write stories of my own. My passion is to tell stories in which the protagonists find themselves in extraordinary environments or situations: A middle age Mom who sneaks out to watch the departure of The Wild Hunt and dreams of one day joining them, A girl who can talk to trees, A boy who is training to be The Boogeyman, A young woman who goes to a party and wakes up in Hell, literally, A young man who falls in love with an Angel…
You know, your garden variety problems…
I hope you’ll come along on my journey into these worlds and more. I promise you’ll never get bored.
