Apparently there’s a football game or something on tonight.

This is one of those party foods that look hard but are very simple. Make a lot they will go fast!

1 package pitted dates
1/2 cup goats cheese or blue cheese
1 package bacon (I use center cut)

Heat oven to 400 degrees

Stuff the cheese into the dates then wrap half a slice of bacon around the dates.
Lay the little bundles seam side down on a sheet pan and bake for about 15 minutes.
See? It’s more like a craft project than cooking!

Changing it up over here at wishingforhorses.com with a new website theme. Lookit how lovely!

Does anyone have any resolutions?
Any big plans for the coming year?
Though I don’t really have any resolutions, I’m making plans to cross off more things on my life list plus add some more.
I’m starting book two this year, “More From The Family Table” is the working title, however, that’s probably going to change.
Fun family goings on include a trip to Boston, where Kellen will attend the Berklee School of Music weekend class. The rest of us will be in search of the ultimate clam chowda and being amused by all the awesome Bawston accents.

Wishing you all a very happy new year and have a great 2011!

Gavin: Blaaaam!
(laughter)
Kellen: Hi there, I’m cheepy Mc Cheepenstien!
(laughter)
Gavin: Oh yeah, oh yeah, you know it!
Kellen: Dude!
(laughter)
Gavin: I have a hybrid! Half Bentley half monster truck that is!
(laughter, spiting milk out nose)
Kellen: Oh man! Oh man!
Gavin: Aaaaand BLAM!
Kellen: Dude remember that guy on Facebook!
Gavin: He’s all…(says something in Martian and or Cantonese)
Kellen: Oh my god! Dude!
(uncontrollable laughter)

Ever I say! Seriously, you have to try this recipe from Dinner: A Love Story. It’s one of my favorite food/recipe blogs. The story of how this recipe came about is entertaining too.

It’s one of those recipes that have endless variations. I did Rosemary/Onion/Cranberry/Veggie Stock variation. How awesome would apple cider and lemon and baked apples be? Also, I used a 1.7 lb pork loin. So it only needed about 35 minutes in the braising liquid. I took it out when it registered about 150 degrees on my digital thermometer, wrapped it in foil while I reduced the cooking liquid. I strained it put it back in the pan and reduced it further until I had a nice gravy!

What’s so cool about snow in Norway? Norway is snowy that’s what it does right? Well friends you’ll note that in the beginning of this video the boy jumps out of a door into the snow right? He’s jumping out of the second story of his house! That is cool!

Here in Oregon the schools shut down this winter for a day because there was about two inches of snow on the ground. Our friends recently transplanted from Kansas laughed at us. Now this my friends is a snow day!

P.S. I’m very sure their Mother isn’t home.

You’ve noticed the theme lately. Snow! It’s going to be in the 60’s next week, needless to say I won’t be having any. However thanks to the internet I can enjoy the snow all over the world!
Our next stop on my tour is Minneapolis, in which Neil is walking his dogs Cabal and Lola.

In addition to being a superb dog walker Neil writes stories. You should check out his site

You guys, I had a great cocktail tonight. It’s called “The Bing and Bowie”
Then I had to explain to the kids why it’s called that. They thought it was pretty cool.

Here’s the recipe:
The Bing and Bowie Martini
1 part lemon vodka
1 part triple sec
1 part blood orange or clementine juice
dash lemon juice
sugar rim

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well. Pour into a chilled martini glass with a sugared rim.

Enjoy while watching this video.
