I saw this silhouette necklace holder project via a link from Design Sponge.

I printed the silhouette from Design Sponge website and enlarged it on a copy machine. You can use whatever silhouette image you’d like, even your own!  My version measures roughly 11 inches across by 15 vertically.  It’s good to measure the space you intend for it first before determining how big you’d like it.

I started by tracing the silhouette onto ¼ inch plywood.

Then, I used a scroll saw to cut out the silhouette.

I cleaned up the edges with sandpaper.

At this point, my husband cut two keyhole slots in the block of wood I used for a hanger.  He used a 3/8 inch drill bit on his drill press and then used a keyhole bit and his router, to shape the keyhole slots.

On the website they screwed in eye hooks to the top of the mounting block and used cup hooks to mount it to the wall.

Using wood glue we glued the mounting block to the back of the silhouette and clamped it in place for about 4 hours.

Once the glue was dry I primed and painted the necklace holder. I made sure it was good and dry before I mounted it to the wall.

And, voila’!  My new necklace holder; she’s so pretty. Smashing taste in jewelry too!

This recipe requires a bit of attention. That is to say, you shouldn’t stray far from the oven as you’ll need to come back every 10 minutes. Setting the timer helps me remember, rather than a burnt smell in the house.

Recipe: Honey Granola Cereal
8 cups whole rolled oats
½ cup canola oil
1 cup honey
Teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Measure and pour oats into a large bowl.
In a small sauce pan mix: oil, honey, salt and vanilla. Heat over medium high, stirring often. Bring just to a boil.
Pour honey mixture over oats and stir until oats are completely covered.
Divide oats between two ungreased sheet pans. Spread the mixture into a single layer on the pans.
Place in the oven for ten minutes. After ten minutes remove from oven and scrape the browned granola from the edge of the pan and redistribute the granola into a single layer again. Place back into the oven for another 10 minutes.
At this point I usually call it quits because I like my granola lightly toasted, if you like yours extra toasty, scrape, fluff and put it back into the oven for another 5-10 minutes.
Allow to cool and crisp up for 15 minutes on the counter before scooping into a container.
Note: After granola is cool you can add dried fruit, toasted nuts or chocolate chips.

For date night last Saturday, Jefrey and I went to Belly. It’s a small place, dimly lit, with about twelve tables plus seating for around six at the bar; its clientele, the usual mix of hipsters and boomers, date nighters and groups of six or eight. Because there was a write up in the Register Guard the week before, we came prepared to wait for a table. They only reserve tables for groups of 6 or more. We spent the hour wait, first at Cafe Lucky Noodle down the street where we had a few drinks at the bar. Then, we window shopped at 5th Street Market. It was a pleasant wait but, by the time the hostess called our cell to tell us our table was ready, we were ready for dinner.
We ordered the bacon wrapped dates as our appetizer, and they were heaven. I’m ashamed to admit I’d never had those before. I’m definitely going to serve them soon.
The pork confit was featured in the article but I didn’t see it on the menu nor was it mentioned when our server told us the specials but the duck confit was on the menu.

Sorry for the dark photos guys, I’ll bring a proper camera next time.

It was served on a bed of sauteed cabbage and with candied/roasted kumquats. The skin was crisp and the meat moist and juicy.

As I made out with my entree Jefrey tucked into his Pork Cheeks with risotto.

Guys, if you’ve never had pork cheeks, let me say that you are missing out. It is the very best part of that wonderful animal. You should try it next opportunity. You won’t regret it.
Jefrey’s entree was awesome! Unctuous, falling apart, meat and risotto cooked perfectly.
We had dessert, and ordered the Churros per our servers suggestion. I’m afraid to say that they tasted a bit burnt. Next time I’ll probably order something else for dessert.
The good news is when the check came there was no sticker shock. We had wine and an appetizer and dessert so our bill was just over $100. But, if you just stick to a glass of wine and an entree you could have a really great meal for under $60 easy.
We will definitely be going back.
Oh, and here’s a shot of the restroom. I do so love a clever restroom.
Granny’s attic meets garage sale kitsch. Plus a warning about the soap dispenser.

Good to know.

This incredible work of art was performed in Berlin last October. Huge three story puppets were used to tell the story of The Giant and the Little Giantess, and their reunion after many years apart.
